KW proudly contributed landscape architecture services to the renovation and expansion of the iconic Terrell Hills Municipal Facility, situated in San Antonio, TX. Originally constructed in the 1930s, the City of Terrell Hills incorporated and acquired a fire station building within their newly formed city limits from neighboring San Antonio. This 5,000-square-foot classic structure retained its 1920s-era Spanish-style architecture, serving as a cherished civic landmark for the community for decades. Our involvement in the project focused on enhancing the outdoor environment surrounding this historic structure, which now includes an 11,000-square-foot addition housing the fire, police, city hall, and sanitation departments. We meticulously crafted a hardscape design featuring pedestrian walkways, stairs, and pavers, seamlessly blending the old-world charm of the original building with modern functionality. Furthermore, our team developed an irrigation design to support the health and vitality of the landscape while maximizing water efficiency. Additionally, a carefully curated lighting design scheme was implemented to illuminate the surroundings, ensuring safety and accentuating the architectural features of the facility, both old and new. Through our collaborative efforts, we aimed to preserve the rich heritage of the Terrell Hills Municipal Facility while creating a welcoming and functional space for the community to gather and engage in civic life.
