#KnowUsToLoveUs- Quality Control

Nate Lewman-small2

Known in the Office as: Quality Control

Actual Name: Nate Lewman

Why landscape architecture? I initially wanted to be a Fine Arts major but I grew up working for landscape companies and I was very interested in plants so I eventually made the transition.

Which college did you attend? Purdue University

What type of projects do you work on at K&W? I’ve had the opportunity to work on a little bit of everything. I’m currently in the middle of transitioning into a leadership role for the Master Planning Communities team so I work more with contractors and prepare bid forms. It’s been a great transition so far.

Which project at K&W do you feel most proud of? Why? The Academy Headquarters was like my baby for a long time. There is a football field we designed and I was able to tour the facility once it was complete. It is awesome.

Tell me some passions of yours. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy fishing; my wife calls it my obsession. I like fishing for the big three: trout, redfish and flounder. I once caught a 6lb trout that was 26 inches long. I was pretty proud of that catch.

What’s your favorite outdoor space to design? I like it all honestly. I like the scale of Master Planned Communities and parks but I also like how detailed you can get with courtyards. I enjoy figuring out what all I can fit into a courtyard.

Where did you meet your spouse? We are both from Indiana and met in high school. She was a sophomore and I was a junior. We have been married 13 years now and have a son, Benjamin.

Would you rather have the ability to fly or be invisible? Fly because there isn’t any traffic that way.

If a genie gave you a wish, what would you wish for? More wishes, world peace and a boat.

What would you like to do in your retirement? I’ve always wanted to be Captain Nate. I’ll have a boat and go fishing in the Florida Keys.

What is your favorite candy? Starbursts or Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers. My son loves Brite Crawlers too.

What is your favorite part about working at K&W? The people; I have many friends here. I also like how we are a younger office. It keeps it vibrant and never stale.

What is something you know now that you would tell your college self? Start studying for the L.A.R.E exam right away and become a licensed landscape architect while you have the down time.

Batman or superman? Batman

Lake or beach? Beach. I grew up spending most of my summer on the lake but I would have to say beach.
