“Good design, is sustainable design, it’s that simple.”
– Darin Weinheimer
Sustainability, or green design, is now synonymous with good design. With offices in Houston and San Antonio, Kudela & Weinheimer understands the importance of incorporating sustainable design strategies into each and every project we undertake. Our team is forward-thinking and has been at the forefront of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified landscape design since the program’s inception. We have a deep portfolio of green projects and understand how to seamlessly incorporate native vegetation, state-of-the art water saving principles, and sustainable site planning techniques. We leverage our knowledge and experience to provide clients with a more efficient, cost effective, marketable, and eco-friendly landscape for both new construction and renovation projects. Kudela & Weinheimer has been involved with over 50 green projects and consistently delivers on the points assigned to the site and landscape.
However, not all sustainably built projects are certified through LEED. Some projects are designed and built to be sustainable, but are not formally certified by any standard. In addition to LEED other green certifications include CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools), Green Globes®, National Green Building Standard and Energy Star®, and Low Impact Development (LID). These certifications rate developments, measuring water efficiency, energy efficiency, proximity to other developments and public transportation, recycled materials used, local materials used, indoor environmental quality, and innovation in design. Through careful planning and thoughtful execution, K&W ensures that LEED, LID (Low Impact Development) and uncertified sustainable projects are properly designed, thoroughly documented and beautiful to behold.
Sustainable principles are incorporated into everything Kudela & Weinheimer produces, but we let our clients guide the process. Together we determine how environmentally beneficial landscape design can enhance a particular project and complement existing goals and priorities. While we have completed several LEED certified projects, we know additional costs are typically involved and pursuing LEED is not a good fit for every client. But, whether a project is seeking LEED certification or not, we design with sustainability in mind. Green design is good design and we are committed to implementing innovative sustainable design strategies.
