Known in the Office as: RFI Informative
Actual Name: Joshua (Josh) Driscoll
What is your role here at K&W? I work with Travis as a construction administrator. We are basically the clean-up crew. Once our projects are in the construction phase, we are on site making sure there are not any problems and if there are, we fix them.
Why landscape architecture? I like design work and the outdoors. I was studying architecture for a while but I’m such an outdoors person and felt landscape architecture was the best choice for me.
Which project at K&W do you feel most proud of? Why? I’m proud of Enclave at Katy because I saw it through from start to finish. I also really like Young Ranch Master Planned Community and the view at Broadstone Skyline is great.
Tell me some passions/hobbies of yours. I practice woodwork and build furniture, bowls and pens. I’m also passionate about motorcycles. I own a couple bikes and enjoy racing motorcycles. I’m currently a prospect in a motorcycle club. My chapter is in Cypress but we have chapters all over Houston. There are many chapters throughout the states and even overseas in France and Germany. It’s a very tight-knit group. We have many family outings and I’m able to involve my wife and kids in many of the events we do. The club has become an extension of my family.
Talk to me more about your children. What do you enjoy doing together? I have two daughters and a son. It’s hard to raise two girls but my daughters and I practice martial arts together so I like to think that’s intimidating enough to keep the boys away.
Where did you meet your spouse? We are high school sweethearts. We started dating when I was 17 years old but went our separate ways after graduating from high school. We went to different colleges and had different experiences but later reconnected after we were both established in our careers.
What is your favorite part about working at K&W? I like the high-paced work environment and the scope of work we do. We work on some pretty high-end projects with big budgets which is fun and interesting.
What is something interesting about you that would surprise us? I have a diesel truck I converted to run off vegetable oil. It would take more than a few sentences to explain how it works and how I built it. Google, ‘Rudolf Diesel Motor‘ though if you really want to know more! That’s my tree-hugging side coming out..
If you could have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Street tacos! There is a taco truck in Houston off I-10 and Shepherd that I like. It’s like $5 for three tacos! I bring in my favorite for breakfast in the morning and Darin is always questioning my choice to eat beef fajita tacos at 7:30am.
What was your first job? I taught tennis lessons for a while. I grew up playing tennis and basketball with my step-dad and he asked me teach tennis lessons so I did!
What if your favorite show? I’m into The Blacklist right now. It’s about politics and conspiracy theories so if that is your thing, check it out.
What is your dream vacation? In college I went to the British Virgin Islands to study abroad and I stayed on a privately-owned island called Guana. The island has two main mansions for the owners, one big common area and the rest is just full of huts. There aren’t any roads, just a few dirt paths. It’s an environmentally-friendly island that attracts many scientists. Scientists are allowed to travel to the island to study its environment and my professor from college was the scientist who was selected to go that year. I had the privilege of meeting the architect while I was there.
Do you have any pets? Yes, I have a Pitbull named Hope. Pitbulls have a bad rep but she is the sweetest dog and actually a big baby. My wife has three cats but I don’t claim them.
Which college did you attend? I graduated from Texas Tech in 2008 with a Bachelors in Landscape Architecture.
What advice would you give someone who wants to be in this profession? Be passionate about what you’re doing. If you aren’t passionate then what is the point?
Ferris wheel or roller coaster? Ferris wheel. I hate roller coasters.
